OFWs are considered as the “modern heroes” of our country. OFWs and their families are entitled to the following benefits and privileges:
1. OWWA Benefits
As a member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, OFWs enjoy medical, life and travel insurance benefits. OFWs can apply for business loans should they be laid off from their work. On the other hand, their children can also avail of scholarship grants. In case of death, the migrant workers will receive burial assistance from the government.
They are also equipped with knowledge during seminars and training which are provided before they leave the country.
2. Priority Lanes for Passport Processing
Great news for OFWs in a rush for passport! The DFA (Department of Foreign Affairs) announced recently that they will convert the DFA Robinsons Galleria satellite office exclusive for OFWs only. This will help our OFWs to get faster passport processing and other foreign services.
They just simply need to present their employment contract and flight ticket.
3. Exclusive Entrance at NAIA
There is a designated entrance exclusive for OFWs at the airport.
4. Privileges from SM Global Pinoy Center members
OFW members and their families can avail of privileges, discounts and special offers at SM Malls including free internet service, foreign exchange services and free international calls.
5. Discount on Travel Tax
OFWs and immediate family can avail of airfare discounts.
6. Housing Projects and Housing Loans
Landbank has a special project for OFWs where they can purchase a house and a lot for a minimum interest under flexible and ‘friendly’ terms.
The bank also offers to refinance an existing mortgage or funding a house renovation.
On the other hand, SSS (Social Security System), offers a loan-able amount up to P2 million pesos to OFWs who are active SSS members.
7. Tax-Free Shopping at the Duty-Free in the Philippines
For those avoiding the hassle of bringing too many items of baggage, shopping at the Duty-Free for loved-ones by the OFWs are easy and budget-friendly because they are tax-free.
8. Philhealth Claims
OFWs who are PhilHealth members are entitled to medical reimbursements and privileges from Philhealth in case of hospitalization or confinement.
9. Savings Program by Home Development Mutual Fund (PAG-IBIG Fund)
For active members, HMDF provides a savings plan with interest rates.
10. Free Language Courses from TESDA
